Dr.Soil Organic Fertiliser for Balcony Plants — Liquid, 1 L

A liquid organic fertiliser formulated for the intense nutritional demands of balcony and container plants — combining hydrolysed proteins, an organic boron complex, a full spectrum of organically chelated trace elements (Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn, B, Mo), and potassium salts to deliver complete macro and micronutrient support to plants growing in the most demanding container conditions. pH 5.5–8.5. Supplied in a bottle made from ISCC PLUS certified plastic — free from fossil petroleum content.

How It Is Formulated

Dr.Soil Organic Fertiliser for Balcony Plants is the most nutritionally complete formulation in the Dr.Soil fertiliser range — specifically designed for the reality of balcony and container growing, where plants in restricted volumes of substrate are subjected to higher light intensity, faster drying, more frequent watering (and therefore more frequent nutrient leaching), and greater temperature fluctuation than garden-grown plants ever experience.

The formulation combines hydrolysed proteins (free amino acids as immediately absorbable nitrogen and protein synthesis precursors), an organic boron complex compounded with aminoethanol (for flowering, fruiting, and sugar transport to reproductive tissues), and a full spectrum of organically chelated trace elements: iron (Fe), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), manganese (Mn), boron (B), and molybdenum (Mo). These six micronutrients are chelated — bound to organic molecules that protect them from precipitation, soil lockup, and oxidation during delivery — ensuring that each element reaches the root cell in bioavailable form rather than becoming chemically unavailable in the substrate as inorganic salts frequently do. Potassium salts complete the formulation, supporting water use efficiency, stomatal function, and the movement of photosynthates to growing points and flowers.

The very wide pH tolerance (5.5–8.5) means this fertiliser remains effective across the full range of balcony plant species and substrate types without adjustment.

About the ISCC PLUS Certified Bottle

The bottle is produced from plastic certified to the ISCC PLUS standard (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) — an independently audited European certification that guarantees the plastic is derived from renewable or recycled feedstocks rather than fossil petroleum. It contains no virgin fossil-derived plastic content. Chain-of-custody traceability is verified at every stage of production.

How It Works

Balcony containers are nutritionally depleted environments by nature: the restricted substrate volume, frequent watering, and high plant density mean that nutrients are consumed and leached far faster than in garden soil. Conventional fertilisers replace macronutrients but neglect the micronutrients that become limiting precisely when macronutrient supply is adequate and plant growth is active. Dr.Soil Organic Fertiliser for Balcony Plants addresses the complete nutritional picture:

  • Amino acid nitrogen — directly absorbable; supports vigorous vegetative growth and flowering without the salt accumulation that synthetic nitrogen fertilisers cause in closed container environments
  • Chelated iron (Fe) — the most commonly deficient micronutrient in container plants; supports chlorophyll synthesis and prevents the interveinal yellowing (iron chlorosis) that is one of the most visible symptoms of container plant stress
  • Chelated zinc (Zn) and manganese (Mn) — essential for enzyme activation, photosynthesis, and resistance to fungal disease; frequently limiting in continuously cropped container substrates
  • Chelated copper (Cu) — supports lignin synthesis (structural strength), pollen viability, and disease resistance
  • Chelated molybdenum (Mo) — essential for nitrogen metabolism; becomes limiting when nitrogen supply is high and plant demand is intense
  • Organic boron — supports flowering, pollen germination, and sugar transport to reproductive tissues
  • Potassium — governs water use efficiency and structural plant vigour under the temperature and wind exposure typical of balcony environments

Plants and Their Needs

This formulation is designed for all plants grown in balcony boxes, window boxes, patio containers, and hanging baskets: petunias, geraniums (pelargoniums), lobelia, calibrachoa, bacopa, verbena, impatiens, fuchsias, begonias, bidens, diascia, osteospermum, surfinias, and all other balcony and patio annuals and tender perennials.

What Balcony Plants Need Most

Balcony plants are selected and bred for continuous, prolific flowering in exposed, restricted conditions. This combination of high ornamental performance and challenging growing environment creates specific nutritional demands that a standard garden fertiliser cannot adequately meet:

  • Complete and uninterrupted nutrition through the entire season — balcony plants are expected to flower from planting in May through to the first frosts of October; this sustained performance requires consistent, complete nutritional support including micronutrients that are rarely considered but frequently depleted
  • Resistance to heat and wind stress — balcony plants face temperature extremes, drying winds, and high solar radiation that stress plants biochemically; adequate zinc, manganese, and potassium directly support the stress response mechanisms that determine whether a plant recovers from a heat episode or declines
  • Prevention of micronutrient deficiency symptoms — the iron chlorosis, interveinal yellowing, stunted growth, and reduced flowering associated with micronutrient deficiency are common and visible problems in balcony containers; the chelated trace element complex in this fertiliser prevents them proactively rather than correcting them after they appear

How to Use

Dilute 40 ml of concentrate per 1 litre of water. Mix thoroughly. Apply to moist substrate — never to dry roots. Apply as a soil drench directly to the container, or as a dilute foliar spray for faster micronutrient delivery during periods of high demand.

Application Dilution Frequency
Soil drench (main method) 40 ml per 1 L water Every 1–2 weeks throughout the growing season, from planting until autumn
Foliar spray 40 ml per 1 L water Every 2 weeks; apply in morning or evening; particularly effective for rapid correction of visible micronutrient deficiency symptoms

In hot, dry periods when watering frequency increases, apply at every second or third watering to compensate for the accelerated leaching of nutrients from containers.

Precautions

Classified as non-hazardous under EU Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP). Non-flammable and non-explosive. Store in the original sealed bottle between 5°C and 30°C, away from children. Avoid prolonged skin contact; wash hands after use. If contact with eyes occurs, rinse thoroughly with clean water. Do not ingest. Do not allow to enter drains or surface watercourses.
